The Twin Towers, The World Trade Center New York City took a full 7 years to build, and after 7 years, when the twin towers were built, from 1971 to 1973, the World Trade Center was considered the tallest building in the world. On February 26, 1993, a group of terrorists planted a van loaded with 1500 pounds of explosives in an underground parking garage of the North Tower. After the explosive blast, thousands of people were injured and six people died including a pregnant woman. The target of the terrorists was to knock the north tower by breaking it from its foundation to the south tower and to kill thousands of people by breaking both towers.

In that blast, a five-story hole was created under the north tower, due to which there was a loss of more than 100 million dollars. 1 World Trade Center was formerly known as Freedom Tower. Then on March 27, 2009, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Changed the name of Freedom Tower to 1 World Trade Center. 1. The 9/11 Attacks and Aftermath.

It was the morning of September 11th, 2001. 4 Flights were hijacked, American Airlines Flight 11 took off from Boston’s international airport, and Flight 11’s destination was Los Angeles. There were around 92 people on the plane of whom 81 people were passengers and the rest of the people were crew members. Of the 81 passengers, 5 of them were hijackers, One of them knew how to fly a plane, whose name was Mohammad Atta, and by Nationality, he was an Egyptian. He took away the control from the pilot and co-pilot, flew the plane, and crashed into the North Tower of World Trade Center New York City.

17 minutes later it comes to be known the United States Airlines Flight 175 has also been hijacked by 5 hijackers. They overpowered the pilot and co-pilot, flew the plane towards once again The World Trade Center New York City, and crashed the plane into the South Tower of The World Trade Center. After a few minutes of a second plane crash, the news of two more planes being hijacked comes in.

One was American Airlines flight 77 and another was flight 93. The third flight crashed on the Pentagon at 09:37 AM which was an iconic building and the Pentagon is the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defence. After the third crash, the entire airspace of the United States was shut down and all the airplanes in the air were ordered to land at the nearest airport.

Due to a plane crash into the south tower, the whole building caught on fire. Because of the fire and crash, the structure of the building had weakened and the entire building collapsed. The fourth plane crashed on an empty field. The north tower of the World Trade Center New York City collapsed as well at 10:28 AM. By the time this horrific morning turned into noon for America, it was revealed that a total of more than 3,000 people had died across the incidents and more than 6,000 people were injured. So, that was all about the 9/11 attack, now let’s see what happened after the incidents.

Aftermath.

A PATRIOT Act was passed in a rush by the US Congress. Several politicians who were present in the US Parliament hadn’t even read this bill. Neither was there a proper discussion nor were there any amendments. The PATRIOT Act was simply passed. Now what is so special in this Act?

What is the PATRIOT Act?

This Act gave the US government boundless power, it gave the US government the authority to spy on its citizens. It could secretly access any books, records, papers, and documents. Additionally, they reduce the power of the judiciary. And this Act covered everyone. People pointed out how the government used the PATRIOT Act and used the terrorist threat as an excuse to silence its dissenters. The people speaking out in opposition to the government, this Act was used to silence them.

About 12 years after 9/11, Whistleblower Edward Snowden made a terrifying expose about this. The news spread worldwide about how the US government was carrying out surveillance and spying. The NSA was collecting the phone records of the customers daily, without any warrant, without any evidence, without informing people the government could spy on anyone, and so it did. After the 9/11 attack, another shocking change was seen in the airport security norms. You would be surprised to know that before 2001, in most of the airports in the world, there wasn’t much security checking.

Sometimes they’d merely check the ID and the metal detectors that you see while entering shopping malls, the security check was similar to that before boarding an airplane. You didn’t even need to arrive long before boarding the flight. Arriving 15-30 minutes before was sufficient. But after 9/11, everything changed. Today, full-body scans, mandatory personal ID checks, and passport checks are done.

Boarding passes are given, you’re told to empty your pockets, and when bags are checked, you need to place laptops and other devices outside. The quantity of liquids you can carry on airplanes is also restricted.

And various minute restrictions weren’t there before. After December 2002, explosive detection systems were deployed nationwide in America and later, it was done in the rest of the world. A few days after the 9/11 attack, in a voice recording released by Osama Bin Laden, it was said that we got this attack done for the atrocities against Muslims and the US interfering in Middle East controversies.

But the hate crimes against Muslims have increased and after 9/11, the US invaded Afghanistan. To seek out these terrorist groups. We are still witnessing the story play out. The USA remained in Afghanistan for 20 years. Though Osama Bin Laden is killed, trillions of dollars of US taxpayers are wasted. Many US soldiers lost their lives and many civilians were killed in these wars. Additionally, the US invaded Iraq as well. Soon
